Peggy Lacy (Southgate) - Class Of 1951

Peggy Lacy Southgate, 90, of Lexington, Kentucky, passed away on January 24, 2024. Peggy was born on July 13, 1933, in Lexington. She was a beloved member of the community and her beautiful spirit and legacy will continue to inspire and bring comfort to all who loved her.

Peggy grew up on Arcadia Park and graduated from Lafayette High School in 1951. She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was instrumental in establishing the Sunday School program at Southern Hills United Methodist Church.

Peggy’s passion for children led her to pursue a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Kentucky. She dedicated many years of her life to teaching, making a positive impact on countless students in early childhood development, elementary and middle schools.

Known for her adventurous spirit, Peggy loved to travel and explore new places. Her zest for life was contagious, and she approached every experience with enthusiasm. Peggy’s incredible force of kindness and love touched the lives of many, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Peggy is survived by her husband, Herbert F. Southgate; her four children, Becky Reinhold (Reese), Dan Lacy (Nancy), David Lacy, Debbie Goodman (Bill); beloved family member, Kay Robinson; her three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Lacy, father of her four children.

Please join the family in celebrating Peggy’s remarkable life on Thursday, February 1st at Milward-Southland, located at 391 Southland Drive in Lexington. Visitation will begin at 10:30am, followed by a noon service. Private interment will follow.
