Barbara Ann Doty Brewer, 88, died surrounded by loved ones on Tuesday, May 14, 2024.
Barbara’s life was one defined by her love of Christ and others. For decades, she devoted herself to her church family, and was especially passionate about working with youth groups and serving on mission trips. Years afterward, the teens she worked with still referred to Mrs. Brewer as a mentor and role model. She was the embodiment of Christ-like love and will be remembered fondly by generations of her church family.
Barbara was a devoted wife to her husband of nearly 60 years, William “Bill” Brewer. Together, they modeled love and commitment to their children and grandchildren. She was never known to utter an unkind word about anyone, instead devoting her time and energy to her family. Her children remember her quiet commitment and kind spirit, while her grandchildren are left with warm memories of Grand Camp, cinnamon toast, a refrigerator stocked with Ale-8s, and pallet beds during frequent sleepovers. Barbara's love for flowers was also well-known, and she spent countless days in her garden beds.
Barbara was a committed member of the United Methodist Church for most of her life, and worked at Trinity Hill UMC, Day Break Community Church, and BAC Construction. She graduated from Lafayette High School in Lexington before going on to study social work at the University of Kentucky, where she was also a member of the UK Troupers.
Barabara is survived by her children, Keith (Traci) Brewer, Kim (Jerrell) Huber, Craig (Angie) Brewer, brother Doug (Jackie) Doty, 9 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Down Syndrome Association of Central Kentucky (dsack.org) or Thompson-Hood Veterans Center (https://thvc.ky.gov/ourfacility/Pages/Volunteer-or-Donate.aspx
