Alan William Lynch, the third of seven children born to Grace and Jack Lynch, passed away peacefully at his home in Lexington on February 26, 2025. Born November 28, 1942, in Brooklyn, NY, Alan spent much of his adult life in Lexington and was a huge UK Wildcat fan. He also loved animals and was the proud "parent" of several dogs and cats throughout his life. Alan graduated from Lafayette High School and attended Mount Saint Mary Seminary in Cincinnati, Ohio. He had a wide range of careers during his time on earth, including working at the original Cape Codder Restaurant in Lexington; owning a Skakey's Pizza in suburban Cleveland, Ohio; serving as circulation manager for The Fort Wayne, IN News-Sentinel and the Lexington Herald-Leader; and working for the U.S. Postal Service. He also served as an U.S. Army Reservist from 1965-1968. Alan was exceptionally smart and knew so many things about so many subjects that everyone in our family wanted him on our team when we played Trivial Pursuit. He was a kind and generous person who didn't covet possessions but rather enjoyed experiences, especially taking his younger siblings, nieces, and nephews on long car rides to see beautiful buildings and gorgeous horse farms. On one occasion, he took his younger brother John to see Rupp Arena under construction. John was nervous about going in, but Alan simply said, "The worst they can do is throw us out." And they did. Alan also served as a Big Brother to a disadvantaged teenager; volunteered at Studio Players (a Lynch family tradition started by our parents Grace and Jack) and the Opera House; and provided free rides to people in his neighborhood. Later in life, when he could no longer drive, he enjoyed showing his relatives all the "short cuts" he knew driving around Lexington – knowing better ways than GPS directions – which often resulted in the trip taking twice as long as necessary. Alan never married but he was an integral part of the more than 65 members of the extended Lynch family and he will be greatly missed by all of us. He was known among his very young relatives for his funny birthday cards and thoughtful gifts. Alan was preceded in death by his parents, Grace and Jack Lynch. Left to fondly remember him are his siblings: Larry Lynch (Linda), Bob Lynch (Bonnie), Kathy Davis (Ken), Phil Lynch (Susan), John Lynch (Jennifer Steffek), and Laura Schweitzer (Steve); as well as too many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews to name! Visitation will be at Milward-Southland, 391 Southland Drive on Thursday, March 6 from 5 to 7 p.m., with a funeral Mass the Newman Center on the UK Campus on Friday March 7 at 12:10 p.m. www.milwardfuneral.com
