Obituary of Donald Lee HarrodDONALD LEE HARROD

1932 – 2010

Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed over into glory to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday morning, November 28, 2010. Born September 25, 1932 in Louisville, Kentucky, to Louis Cripps Harrod, Sr. and Loretta Lillian Humphrey Harrod, he is the third of eight children.

He is survived by his siblings; Louis C. Harrod, Jr., Betty Jean Harrod Hurst, Shirley Ann Harrod Moody, David Harrod and Donna Carol Harrod; he was preceded in death by Charles Robert Harrod and Marcella Harrod Hurst.

He married and remained in love with his high school sweetheart, Norma McDaniel Harrod, for over fifty-five years. His life revolved around serving Jesus Christ and surrounding himself with family and friends. His children; Keith Harrod, Karen Harrod, Stephen Harrod and wife Pam, as well as his four grandchildren – Jason Townsend, Jenny Townsend, Amy Harrod and Brian Harrod – will be eternally grateful for the positive influence he was in their lives. He was always delightful, hard-working and innately thoughtful of others.

Don served as a corporal in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Munich, Germany, after WWII. He earned his Bachelor and Master of Science Degrees in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Kentucky and his PhD from the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Engineering. Don spent nearly his entire forty-plus year career with Westinghouse, with extended periods at the Astronuclear Lab, the R&D Center and the Nuclear Services Division, as a Fellow Engineer. He was faithfully involved in ministry throughout his life and has been a member of Olive Baptist Church since 1990. Heaven seems a little closer as we anticipate our reunion with him.

Visiting hours will be Wednesday, December 01, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A Memorial service will be held Thursday, December 02, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel. The celebration of Don’s life will be officiated by Dr. Ted Traylor.
