Helen Elizabeth Geddes, widow of Robert "Bob" George Geddes, passed away on July 18, 2024, at Baptist Health Hospital. She was born in
Lexington, KY on April 4, 1947, to Bethel and Hattie Brooks Sloan. A graduate of Lafayette High School, Helen wed Bob in 1972 and over the course of their 46-year marriage, they took special care in rescuing cats and dogs from around the area. They provided a loving home to more than 30 cats, as well as several special dogs, including Maddie Joe, Skippy and Trixie.
Helen enjoyed visiting Gatlinburg with relatives and friends, attending tributes to Elvis Presley and always eagerly perusing the newest shops and carefully selecting souvenirs for those special to her. Her favorite time of year was Christmas, bestowing gifts upon all her family and loved ones. When home, she always found time to catch up by phone with those special to her in life. An attendee of Lexington Pilgrim Holiness Church, she will be greatly missed.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, David Geddes. She is survived by a brother, Butch Sloan (Kathy); brother-in-law John Geddes (Leigh Ann); a special cousin, Lisa Mann (Wayne); Guajardo Loeza, her second family, who includes longtime caregiver Natalia Guajardo Loeza; an aunt, Mary Brooks; an uncle, Tom Brooks; one nephew, Scott; five nieces: Rachel, Barbara, Autumn, Laney and Jenny; her dog, Maddie Joe; and many treasured cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, July 23, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home on Harrodsburg Road. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with services to follow led by Pastor Kim Dewhurst with burial at Blue Grass Memorial Gardens.
