Gordan Bryant Stacy

Gordon Bryant Stacy, 70, an accomplished man for all seasons, passed away Friday, April 28, in Lexington, Ky. He was born on January 22, 1953, in Richmond, Ky., to the late Ada Mae (Watson) Stacy and Thomas Charles (TC) Stacy. They adored their son, as he adored and honored them throughout their lives. He was a true original, bright, and capable. He had a quick wit and a knack for turning phrases. Anyone who knew Gordon knows well that he embraced his father’s advice to, “do everything you’re big enough to do, son.” Like Lewis and Clark, Gordon was a prolific Professional Land Surveyor. He was president and owner of The Furlong Company, Inc., an independent organization that contracted with local engineering firms to provide construction inspection services, construction layout surveying, and topographical surveying. He worked contract projects for Tetra Tech Engineering for many years, and most recently was employed by Thoroughbred Engineering in Lexington. He had a diverse depth of knowledge, loved history, political conversations, trains, and had uncommon common sense. He assisted in writing the reference book Madson, on Kentucky Real Property Boundary Law by Ted Madson (June, 1989).
Gordon grew up in Lexington and attended Picadome Elementary, Beaumont Junior High, and Lafayette High School. He attended the University of Kentucky earning his B.S. in Mining Engineering in May, 1981. After working for Peabody Coal Company, Inc. in Morganfield Ky. for three years, he returned to Lexington and earned another B.S. in Civil Engineering at the UK College of Engineering in May, 1984.
From May, 1981, to August, 1986, Gordon was a member of the Military in the U.S. Air Force, 123rd Civil Engineering Squadron, Kentucky Air National Guard (ANG). He was stationed at Lackland AFB for active duty training and Texas and Standiford Field (ANG) in Louisville, KY. He was a licensed pilot.
Gordon was a life-long member in good standing of the Irvine Masonic Lodge. He lived out the most important tenets armed with the eternal truths of friendship, morality, and brotherly love. He was a friend indeed, with an abundant wealth of friendships that he made and cultivated throughout his life.
He leaves behind his devoted soul mate, Vickie; Cousin Sam (Pat, Mike) Dunaway, relatives in Irvine, and Lee County, Ky., and a multitude of friends and neighbors who were to him more like the brothers and sisters he never had. Gordon treasured each and every person fortunate enough to ever call him a friend. He didn’t hold grudges and had no enemies. He was thoughtful, generous, patient and kind; solid and dependable. He had the gift of hospitality. Camaraderie was important to Gordon, he relished time spent gathering with friends over music, refreshments, and jocularity. Most can surely recall their own precious, humorous “Gordo Story.” He loved good food, a good garden ripe tomato, good wine, and sharing those things and time with others. His dog, “Bird” (Molly), was the best and only dog in the world. Finally, Gordon never wanted to impose on anyone. He was a true patriot and giver through and through. That’s simply how he rolled. Obviously he didn’t write this tribute, his soul mate did. Strong yet humble, like he often referenced Brad Paisley’s song, “Waitin’ on a Woman,” he surely would want to thank you all for your patience in reading this eulogy to its end.
A toast to my one true north: “May the wind be always at your back; May the sun shine warm upon your face; May the rains fall soft upon your fields, and until we meet again, May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.”
Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 on Friday, May 5 at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home on Harrodsburg Rd. The funeral service will be held at the same location on Saturday, May 6 at 10:30 a.m., with burial at The West Irvine Cemetery immediately following. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, Tunnel to Towers, or Shriners Hospitals for Children.
