Thomas Capell Walker, Jr., 77, passed away peacefully in Lexington, on April17, 2023. Tom was born in Knoxville, TN, the son of the late Thomas Capell Walker and Dorothy Hunter Walker. He graduated from Lafayette High School, Lexington, received his B.A. degree, cum laude, from Vanderbilt University, and graduated from the University of Chicago Law School. Tom was a proud veteran, having served in the U.S. Army Military Intelligence (1968-1971). He practiced law in the Chicago area, Lexington, and Richmond Virginia, where retired. Tom leaves to honor his memory his beloved wife and friend, Pamela Johnson Walker and his two sons, Thomas Capell Walker, III (Sabrina), Easley, SC and Matthew H. Walker (Allie), Dayton, Ohio. He also leaves his sister, Susi Frye, Hickory, NC and his six grandchildren: Kayleigh, Hunter, Declan, and Mackenzie of Easley, SC and Owen and Olivia of Dayton, Ohio. In addition to his enjoyment of the outdoors, hiking, camping, and backpacking, Tom also loved Bluegrass music. One of the great joys in his life was service as Scoutmaster to Boy Scout Troop 186, where he had the opportunity to mentor and encourage young scouts. During the 1990’s, he enthusiastically accompanied three expeditions of scouts to Philmont Scout Ranch, located in New Mexico. He also served on the Boy Scouts Blue Grass Council, Lexington, as well as on the Heart of Virginia Council, Richmond, Virginia. He received the Scoutmaster Award of Merit and was awarded the Silver Beaver Award for his distinguished service. After retirement, Tom began service to his fellow veterans as a volunteer at the Veterans Administration facility in Richmond. His service continued at the VA in Lexington. He is grateful for the brief time he spent as a resident of Thomson-Hood Veterans Facility, Wilmore, Ky, and the kind and compassionate way in which he was welcomed. Tom was raised in the Methodist Church and was a member of Southern Hills United Methodist Church for many years. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to The Foundation for Affordable Housing, Inc., 169 Deweese Street, Lexington, KY 40507. Visitation for family and friends will be held on April 22, 2023, from 12:30PM to 2:30PM at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home on Harrodsburg Road, Lexington, followed by a memorial service at 2:30PM.
