Lexington, Kentucky - William Geophrey "Geoph" Jones, 69, of Lexington, was relieved of his worldly burdens on June 7, 2022. He was born in Denver, Colorado, to Billie and Roberta (Swank) Jones, and moved to Kentucky as a child. He graduated from Lafayette High School in 1971 and attended the University of Kentucky. As a young man, he was an avid bicyclist, rock climber, hiker, backpacker, and camper. A lifelong dog owner, he had a knack for drawing animals to him (often with treats kept in his pocket). He served in many capacities: firefighter and paramedic, Cub Scout den leader, religious education teacher at the Lexington Unitarian-Universalist Church, and emergency response trainer after retiring from the Lexington Fire Department. Geoph warmed many hearts with a jovial laugh, whimsical sense of humor, and broad, welcoming smile. He is survived by his wife, Linore Dudik Jones of Chatham, Massachusetts, and his son, Evan (Anne) Jones of Louisville. Geoph is also survived by his sister, Karole, nephew Mur Steagall, and nephew Zaquery (Ashley) Steagall and their children, all of Lexington. No services are planned. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Lexington Fraternal Order of Firefighters (2205 Thunderstick Dr., Lexington, KY 40505) would honor the memory of Geoph's service to the community.
