Nancy Maria Nollenberger (Sallee) - Class Of 1960

Nancy M. Sallee

Nancy Maria Nollenberger Sallee,78, widow of Hubert B. Sallee (Bud), lost her courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, December 22, 2020. She was born on August 8, 1942, in Newark, New Jersey, to the late Walter and Viola Nollenberger.

Her family relocated from Michigan to Lexington, KY in 1957. Nancy graduated from Lafayette High School in 1960. She earned 3 degrees from the University of Kentucky; BS in Commerce in 1964, BA in Business Education in 1988, and a MA in Business Education in 1991.

She married Bud Sallee in 1981. During their 22 years of marriage, they were active members of Christ the King Cathedral. They also enjoyed world-wide travel and serving in the Lexington Lions Club.  As a result of their travels and her love of Christmas, Nancy began collecting Nativities. She enjoyed sharing the over 200 nativities in her collection with others.  After Bud’s death in 2003 she continued her ministry at Christ the King.

Nancy worked in Human Resources for several businesses including Square D where she met Bud. She began working for Lexington Community College (now Bluegrass Community and Technical College) in January 1991 in the Office Administration Program. In January 1993, she began working as a trainer for the Center for Community Partnerships.  She went onsite to community businesses to teach computer skills and other classes. Nancy taught Accounting at BCTC from 2005 until the fall of 2019 when her cancer forced her to retire. Her colleagues at BCTC shared that she was loved by her students who were so appreciative of her helping them to succeed in their educational endeavors.

Nancy loved doing crafts and she enjoyed making things for her family, friends, and co-workers. She especially loved making Christmas ornaments and other decorations. Nancy used her crocheting ability as a volunteer at the Federal Medical Center in Lexington where she taught inmates how to crochet.

She also loved her dogs, especially her German Shepherds.  Nancy and her pet therapy dog, Heidi, volunteered at Kentucky Children’s Hospital weekly for several years where they brought joy to many children.

Survivors are her brothers and sisters-in-law; James and Beth of Colorado; Ralph and Rebecca of Arkansas, and Karl and Christa of Wisconsin. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and a special friend, David Decker.

In addition to her parents and husband she was proceeded in death by siblings, Paul and Elise Nollenberger and stepchildren, Chip and Judy Sallee.

A Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, 11AM, at Christ the King Cathedral. Masks and social distancing will be required. As Nancy requested, there will be a family celebration of her life in the summer of 2021 at Karl and Christa’s home in Wisconsin.
