In Memory

Patricia Page (Schrader) - Class Of 1951

Patricia Page Schrader

Patricia Page Schrader, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, died peacefully on May 8, 2021, in Lexington, Kentucky. Her husband of 62 years, Lynwood Schrader, predeceased her. Pat is survived by three devoted sons John Schrader, Wilmore, KY; Joel Schrader (Joan), Ashland, NE; and Jamie Schrader (Lynn), Lexington, KY. She adored and loved spoiling her six grandchildren Page Harman (Joe) of Lexington, KY; Mary Alice Daniels (Aulander) Lexington, KY; Jay Schrader, San Francisco, CA; Henry Schrader, Lexington, KY; Rob Schrader, Los Angeles, CA; and J.B. Schrader, Ashland, NE, and was especially delighted by four great-grandchildren Hays Schrader, Addie Daniels and twins Anderson and Emerson Harman. Pat also leaves her beloved sister Jerri Burrows (Bob) and their children and families Chris Burrows, Betsy Forkin, and Mike Burrows, all of Hudson, OH.

Pat was born on December 23, 1933 to R. Hays and Lola Bailey Page in Pineville, KY. She lived her early childhood in Pineville, moved to Frankfort for a time and on to Lexington where she graduated from Lafayette High School. Pat married Lynwood in 1952, and after their three sons were born, proceeded to obtain the college education she had temporarily postponed. While raising her family, Pat earned a BA from the University of Kentucky in 1971, followed by her MA in 1979. She worked at the UK College of Agriculture as an Extension Information Specialist for 4-H. Pat was an active member of Central Baptist Church where she made many life-long friends, teaching Sunday School, cooking youth choir suppers and serving in numerous other ways. In 1996, she and Lynwood joined their son Jamie and his family at Maxwell Street Presbyterian Church where they continued fellowship and worship through their lives.

There was nothing Pat loved more than digging into a good book and she was a voracious reader, maintaining lists and notes of books most meaningful to her. Her love of stories and history prompted her to dedicate significant hours in her later life to memorializing her own family’s history with books she wrote and had printed to give to younger family so that we would know much more about those who came before us. The hours she devoted to writing her family’s stories were some of her most fulfilling. Pat so enjoyed spending time in her “cozy office to work creatively” on her computer. That she was willing to share so much of herself in her writing, to make sure that she printed and gifted it to her children and grandchildren is remarkable and precious.

Writing and storytelling were not her only extraordinary talents. Pat was a master seamstress and produced magnificent needle-pointed works of art. Each of her grandchildren is the proud owner of a gorgeous Christmas stocking, as unique and beautiful as her love for each of them. She gave generously of her time and attention to ensure that her children and grandchildren enjoyed individualized attention and experiences with her, whether it was traveling, baking, reading, fishing or reminiscing about family. Pat loved her family more than anything else in her life.

She also made so many friends through her life, especially her women friends from both churches she attended and her “Birthday Group.” Pat was such a loving person, so interested in other people and their lives, taking care to really know and learn about them, even as she was reluctant to talk about herself. She was selfless and compassionate, a born nurturer and listener. We will miss her quiet reflection and wisdom, her wonderful sense of humor and how she sometimes could hardly recount a story for laughing herself to tears. We are grateful that the pain and frustration she managed in her last years from Parkinson’s Disease and arthritis has abated and know she would want us to publicly acknowledge her (and our) gratitude for the devoted and loving care she received from Lisa Dillon and Virginia Mayes during this past year.
