William Arnold McMurry - Class Of 1957

 

Sergeant First Class William A. McMurry, 40, of Lexington, Fayette County, KY, died on Saturday, October 20, 1979 from a cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead at Ireland Army HHospital, Fort Knox, Kentucky. McMurry was a Chemical Non Commissioned Office (NCO) with Headquarters and Headquarters Battery of the 138th Field Artillery Brigad in Lexington and was training with his unit at Fort Kno when he perished.

McMurry first enlisted with the Kentucky Guard in September 1956. He was a 1957 graduate of Lafayette High School. In his civilian career, he was a dispatcher for W. T. Congeto concrete company.  At the time of his death, McMurry had more thatn 15 years of service in the Kentucky National Guard.  His awards and decorations include the Armed Forces Reserve Medal: The Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, the Kentucky Service Ribbon with Brone Cluster and th Kentucky National Gaurd Commendation Ribbon with 2 Oak Leaf Cluster.

McMurry is buried in the Lexington Cemetery, Secion 48, Lot 612.
