Donald L Colliver - Class Of 1958

 

 

Donald L. Colliver, 78, passed away Sunday, December 2, 2018 in Lexington. Don was born in Flemingsburg, Kentucky to the late Kenneth and Geneva (Brinegar) Colliver on September 10, 1940. He was wed to Ms. Carolyn “Sissie” Helt on November 21, 1965. They met on a blind date August 1, 1964. Together they lovingly knew each other as “Tootie” and “Sugar Bear” and celebrated 53 years of loving marriage until his passing. 
 
Don graduated from Lafayette High School and attended the University of Kentucky. He served his country proudly in the United States Army as a reservist. Don began his career at Second National Bank in Lexington. He became a commissioned National Bank and Trust Examiner for the Comptroller of the Currency, U.S. Treasury Dept. where he was employed for 36 years. He was the Treasurer of the Pairs and Spares Class at Broadway Christian Church as well as the Corvair Club of Central Kentucky. He loved driving their classic 1964 Chevrolet Corvair Monza. Don was an initial supporter of Sayre Christian Village and after retirement he served there as a volunteer at the Healthcare Center. Don was a kind, laid back, quiet fella with a subtle sense of humor. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
 
Don is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn “Sissie” Colliver; sister, Carolyn (Joseph) Clark; nieces, Sarah Lindsay (Shane) Clark-Munson and Michelle Helt Hartmann; great-nieces, Annalisa, Josephina, Alexandra Hartmann, and Reese Munson. Also surviving is a great-nephew, Broderick Hartmann. In addition to his parents Don was preceded in death by his brother, Ronnie B. Colliver; mother-in-law, Helen Helt, and brother-in-law, Scott “Scottie” Helt.
 
Family will receive friends on Thursday, December 6th from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Milward – Southland located at 391 Southland Dr., Lexington. Funeral service will commence on Friday, December 7th at 11:00 am with visitation one hour prior to service time with Rev. Tyler Greene, Chaplain of Sayre Christian Village, and Dr. Mark Deakins, Worship Pastor of Broadway Christian Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Lexington Cemetery after services. Serving as active pallbearers are, Larry Hardiman, Jerry Case, Shane Munson, Tim Padgett, Tony Busseni, and Kelly Fallen.
