Mr. James E. Bennett “Poppy”, son of the late Robert Sidney and Elizabeth Bowden Bennett passed unexpectedly at his family farm. Jim was born May 8th, 1939 in Harrisburg, PA. He attended Lafayette High School in Lexington, Kentucky and is a graduate of the class of 1957 from Bourbon County High School in Paris, Kentucky. He served honorably in the United States Army and retired from the United States Postal Service as well as from the Fayette County Public School System. He was a lifelong Lexingtonian and resided for 46 years on his beloved family farm at Crawley Lane. Jim was an active member of Jessamine County Antique Farm Equipment Association and treasured his antique and Oliver tractors. 

His beautiful life will be forever cherished in the lives of his children, Gail (Greg) Bennett Hatchett, Donna Kaye Bennett and James Michael Bennett; grandchildren Erin Leedy, Courtney Hatchett, Jared Leedy, Wesley (Amy) Bennett, Sidney (Casey) Leedy-Hatcher and Kelly Hatchett; great-grandchildren James Andrew Bennett, Easton Hatcher and Ridge Hatcher.

He also leaves to mourn his passing his siblings, Jean Zebley Nelson, Robert (Rebecca) Bennett Jr., Patricia Bennett Cullum; a host of loved nieces and nephews; and his adored extended family and friends in Ireland. 

Visitation will be on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Milward-Broadway and a Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, Aug. 31, 2018, 11 a.m., Milward-Broadway. Interment will be at the Lexington Cemetery.
