MCKEENE Marie Crawford


 

MARIE CRAWFORD MCKEENE, 89, widow of Donald E. McKeene, passed away Sunday, April 3rd. Born in Lexington, KY on August 13, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Stella May and Waller Clay Crawford. She was a graduate of Lafayette High School, the University of Kentucky - College of Education, and received her Master's degree from Georgetown College. She was a retired teacher and the Director of Porter Memorial Baptist Church Pre-school, the church in which she had been a member since December 7, 1944. She dedicated her life to serving her Lord and Savior. She taught English as a Second Language (ESL) in the Porter Memorial Literacy Program for the last 20 years. She was a member of the Deerfield and Zandale Homemakers Clubs. In recent years, she pursued her passion for painting with watercolors.

In addition to her husband and parents, Marie was preceded in death by her brother, Clay Eugene Crawford. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, two daughters, Donna Marie McKeene Spoerl (Robert) and Karen Kay McKeene Abshire, both of Lexington; a son, Kenneth Wayne McKeene of Bella Vista, AR; four grandchildren, Joshua Mark Rothrock (Chari), Kristin Marie Spoerl, Amanda Kay Furgason and Jessica Marie McKeene; and three greatgrandchildren, Ian Rothrock, Ama

 

Services will be held 10am Thursday at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home - Main ST. with Dr. Tim Turner officiating. Burial will follow at the Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5-9pm Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to, English as a Second Language Literacy Program-Porter Memorial Baptist Church, 4300 Nicholasville RD, Lexington, KY 40515.
