
Luther Hundley
May 19, 1936 - February 12, 2025
Lexington, Kentucky - Luther Gordon Hundley was born May 19, 1936 and passed February 12, 2025. A native of Lexington Kentucky and only son of Luther and Virginia Hundley, he was predeceased by his first wife, Marilyn McClure Hundley, whom he married in 1958. He graduated from Lafayette High School in 1954 where he lettered in track and basketball, and from the University of Kentucky in 1958 where he served on the U.S. Air Force ROTC Honor Squad. After graduation he served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1962 as a Sergeant in the Military Police.
Luther was a career employee of State Farm Insurance where he started as a claims adjuster in 1962 and retired in 1997 as a Divisional Claims Superintendent in State Farm's regional office in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. He enjoyed travel and was an avid Big Blue fan; a proud Kentucky Colonel; a history buff - particularly of the Civil War era - and an enthusiastic gun and knife trader. He was as a member of Rosemont Baptist Church and later of Calvary Baptist Church, a Mason in Lexington Lodge No. 1, and in earlier years an active member in the Kiwanis Club and Lions Clubs of Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
He is survived by his second wife, Mary Gregory, of Mount Vernon/Lexington, whom he married in 2016; his children John G. Hundley (Lindsey) and Jane Hundley Reeves (Stephen), both of Louisville; five grandchildren: Mary-Hollis, Madeline and John Hundley, Jr., and Hunter and Brandon Reeves; and four great-grandchildren.
His family will conduct a private ceremony and internment with his first wife, Marilyn, at Bluegrass Memorial Cemetery, Nicholasville, at a later date. Donations may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 150 E. High Street, Lexington, KY 40507.
