Obituary

Edna Florence Crawford Fischer passed away at her home on Sunday, August 14, 2016. Edna was the daughter of Daniel and LaBordia (Wilson) Crawford and the widow of the late Dr. Warren Edward Fischer. Born in Nicholasville, KY on January 24, 1926, her family soon moved to Lexington. Edna attended Lafayette High School where she was a basketball player, newspaper editor, Charmettes singer, and met Warren. At the University of Kentucky she played multiple sports and worked on the student newspaper. After graduation, she married Warren on March 17, 1948 and they became faithful and active members of Maxwell Street Presbyterian Church where Edna designed and taught a craft class for 2nd and 3rd graders for 35 years. Edna lived her faith by serving others, especially children. She was a member of the Bluegrass Dental Auxiliary where she established a marionette program for dental education that was presented at schools throughout central Kentucky. She also served as a leader in Brownie Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Cub Scouts. She and Warren were hosts in the International Hospitality Program at UK for 34 years. They also worked on Habitat for Humanity houses and went on a medical mission trip to Mexico. In the 1970’s, Edna was a member of the Lafayette Band Aides – a group that sewed the first flags and uniforms for the Lafayette High School Band Color Guard. Edna was the beloved mother of three children – Suzanne (Scott) Holton, Atlanta, GA; Mark (Carol) Fischer, Lexington; and Eric (Laura) Fischer, Lexington. She was the most awesome Gram to her six grandchildren: Kendra (Seth) Rumford, Lexington; Steven Holton, Alexandria, VA; Thaddeus Mark Fischer, Denver, CO; Sara (Matt) Gard, Atlanta, GA; Dwight Fischer, Lexington; and Clark Fischer, Lexington. She was the delighted Gram-Gram to three great-granddaughters: Anna Grace Rumford, Lexington; Lily Rumford, Lexington; and Audrey Gard, Atlanta, GA.
