Kathy Bryan (Withrow) - Class Of 1963

February 1, 1945  -  August 9, 2024

Kathleen Mildred Withrow, 78, passed away peacefully holding her children’s hands Friday, August 9, 2024 in Lexington, Kentucky. Born to the late Elsie Zahs and James Joseph Bryan on February 1, 1945 in Ohio. Kathy was a devoted wife, mother and educator. Kathy met her late husband James Calvin “Cal” Withrow while he was attending University of Kentucky and she attending nearby Eastern Kentucky University. Kathy began her career in education as an Art teacher in Lexington, Kentucky at Bryan Station High School.  They were married June 1969 and first resided in Ohio.   After Cal retired from the NFL, the family moved to San Diego where Kathy continued her career as an educator in the San Diego School District until she retired, and as a substitute teacher for many years. Both in their retirement, Cal and Kathy returned to Lexington, Kentucky in 2010 where Kathy was an active member of the Lafayette High School Alumni Association and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Her favorite pastimes included gardening in her yard, painting things for friends, sipping on her coffee, playing games on the computer, shopping with her daughter and spoiling her dogs(Bud&Marley). 

Kathy will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Heather Withrow; her son, Jason (Lisa) Withrow; her brother, Terry (Peggy) Bryan; her sister, Kim (Mike) Castle; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elsie and James Bryan; her brother, James Bryan; and her husband James Calvin Withrow. 

Heather and Jason Withrow will be hosting a Celebration of life for our Mom Kathleen Withrow at The Reserve at Hager Place Clubhouse on September 28th, 2024. For those of you who want to start early we will be serving homemade smoked pulled pork sandwiches and side dishes starting at noon to watch the UK game on TV's! Then we will have the celebration for our Mom with appetizers and desserts starting at 4pm. Just bring yourself, your stories, your memories to share about our Mom and have a good time!!  In lieu of flowers, donations in Kathy’s memory are recommended to the Lexington Humane Society, or a charity of your choice. Friends and family are encouraged to leave messages of condolence and remembrance here on Kathy’s tribute wall.
