Art Hunkle - Class Of 1985

Art Hunkle

Art Hunkle, beloved husband, father, brother and son, passed away on July 19, 2022.

Art was born in Lexington, Kentucky on December 3, 1967 to Louis and Dorothy (Mallory) Hukle. He graduated from Lafayette High School in 1985 and loved playing baseball while growing up. Art graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in Accounting, and remained an avid Wildcat fan and legendary tailgater his entire life. He owned B&L Lawncare services, and for many years he enjoyed bartending at Raffertys and The Ketch.

Art was a devoted friend and father figure to so many people who were connected to him through school, work and sports. Many of Art’s favorite memories centered around traveling and sporting events with family and friends. Whether it was Key West, Jamaica, Disney World or Hilton Head; Kentucky football games, swim meets, cross country or track meets, he deeply valued these times with those he loved most. He may not have been the loudest voice in a gathering, but his presence and love for people filled every room he entered.

As much as Art loved so many groups of people, nothing compared to the love he had for his wife, Weslie, and their children, Ben and Leah. He had no greater joy than to see Ben and Leah live life to the fullest, and he was beyond proud of their hard work and accomplishments. His deep love for his family will undoubtedly be the trait we hold most dear in our hearts.

Art is preceded in passing by his parents, Louis and Dorothy. In addition to Weslie, Ben and Leah, he is survived by his sister, Janice Hukle, and her sons, Chester and Michael; in-laws, Artie and Janet Howard; sister-in-law, Emily, her husband, Jason DeLong, and their children, Jack, Lily, Caroline and Sam. Art is also survived by friends who are as close and as dear as family: Greg Brown, Mike “Big” Hurt, Dave Davis, John “Gonzo” Gonsalves and his wife, Melanie; Adrianne, Chandler and Ramsey Hayhurst; the North Lexington YMCA swim family, and the cross country and track families at Jessie Clark Middle School and Lafayette High School.

The family will welcome visitors on Tuesday, July 26th from 4-7pm at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home on Harrodsburg Road in Lexington.
