Coleman Bush - Class Of 1967

 

 

BUSH, Coleman D., 69, a longtime Lexington resident, passed away on August 8, 2018, after a long battle against renal cell carcinoma. Coleman was born in Winchester, KY on May 29, 1949 to Enoch Robinson Bush II and Mary Hitt Bush. Coleman and his family moved to Lexington in 1956. He graduated from Lafayette High School and the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. He later passed the Uniform CPA exam on his first attempt and met the work requirements to become a CPA. His professional accounting career began in January, 1973 in Hickory, NC with Superior Continental Corporation, through November, 1974 when he returned to Kentucky and was employed for two years in various accounting positions with Irvin Industries in Lexington and Richmond, KY. Coleman began a 27 year career with Kentucky American Water Company and its parent company, the American Water System, on June 1, 1977, eventually rising to the position of Vice President and Treasurer for Kentucky American Water Company. Coleman is grateful to the American Water System for all of the opportunities it afforded him during his employment as well as after he retired. After retiring, Coleman did a career about-face by becoming a part-time contractor, working with his son Dave, but also taking on projects of his own. Coleman’s other passions include reading, writing, sketching and working on various neighborhood projects through Meadowthorpe Neighborhood Association. Coleman is survived his wife of fifty years, Brenda, who truly was the love of his life; daughter Erin Abernathy (Dean), Lexington; son, David Bush (Kim), Lexington; son Jonathan Bush (Natalie), LaGrange, KY; six grandchildren: Isaac and Eli Abernathy, Emma and Cole Bush, Sofia and Charlie Bush. He is also survived by his mother, Mary Owen Bush, Lexington; brother, Enoch Robinson Bush III (Maureen), Fallbrook, CA; sister, Nora Warman, Lexington; sister Barbara Lytle, Lexington and sister Callie Paddock (Bob) Nicholasville, KY. He was preceded in death by his father, Enoch Robinson Bush II. The body will be cremated. Visitation will be 6-8:30 pm Sunday, Aug. 12 at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Rd. A memorial service will be held 10:30 am Monday, August 13 at the funeral home. The ashes will be inurned at a later date during a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that contributions in Coleman’s honor be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
