Barbara Jean Kain Maddox went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 24, 2024. She was born on June 10, 1932, in rural Fayette County to Jack and Pauline Kain. She and her brother Jack were raised on a farm, where she developed a strong work ethic and love of animals. She attended The Athens School, graduated from Lafayette High School, and attended the University of Kentucky.

Barbara married Jim Maddox in 1953, and they had four children. She was a devoted and involved mother to Jim, Mike, Kim, and Kelly. She was a member of Tates Creek Christian Church, participating in the Grace and Truth class, and an ardent supporter of the Victory For Life Ministry.

Over the years, Barbara was active in many organizations, taking a leadership role in most: Beta Sigma Phi, Lexington Art League, Red Hat Society, Lexington Women’s Club, and Lafayette Alumni Association. She was a Kentucky Colonel. She was also an avid bridge and duplicate bridge player and passionate UK Wildcats sports fan. She loved seeing the world, and traveled to Europe, Australia, Russia, New Zealand, Hawaii, Ireland and all over the United States following her beloved Kentucky Wildcats. But most of all she loved her family.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her children, James “Jim” Maddox, Kimberly Smith (Bob), all of Lexington, KY, Kelly Louk (Todd), Port St. Lucie, FL. Daughter-in-law, Tracey Maddox, Cincinnati, OH. Grandchildren Bethany, Michael, Haley, Jennifer, James, Erin, Rebekka, Megan, Dorothy “Katie,” Chase, Amy and Brian; great grandchildren, Amaya, Madison, Thomas, Gunnar, Sadie, Alivia, Maggie and Elena. Her beloved brother, Jack Kain, Sr. (Alice), a host of nieces and nephews and many special friends, including Judy Secrest, Kyleen Kelly, and her beloved pet Lexi.

She is preceded in death by husband, Jim Maddox, and son, Mike Maddox.

Funeral services will be 11:30 AM, Tues., Jan. 30, 2024, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, 3421 Harrodsburg Rd., Lexington, KY 40513. Burial will follow in Camp Nelson National Cemetery, 6980 Danville Rd., Nicholavsille, KY 40356. Visitation will be prior to the funeral on Tues. from 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM.
